Semifinal Sweeps Send Utah Valley and Utah Tech to the 2025 WAC Volleyball Championship Match

ABILENE, Texas – No. 2 Utah Tech and No. 1 Utah Valley won the Friday semifinal matchups and have advanced to the 2025 WAC Volleyball Tournament championship match. The Trailblazers and Wolverines will fight for a WAC Tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT at the Moody Coliseum.

Utah Tech is headed to the university’s first-ever Division I conference tournament championship match following the Trailblazers 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) sweep over Tarleton State in the semifinal round. Utah Tech improved its season record to 21-5, while the Texans concluded their season 16-10.

Tessa Treanor collected her second consecutive 12-kill match of the tournament and registered a team-high four aces in the match. Nana Asiata and Emery Harrison each notched nine kills in the contest. Marley Roe led the Trailblazers with 23 assists with Mya Laufiso leading the team with 12 digs. Late in the third set, Kennedi Knudsen recorded her first pair of kills, including the match-winning kill, since suffering an injury in early October.

Six different Texans tallied at least four kills in the match, led by Breannah Peterson with nine kills. Megan Hodges and Teya Nguyen each collected 15 assists as Nguyen attached on 11 digs for a double-double.

Utah Valley will make its first appearance in the WAC Tournament championship match since 2022 and will fight for its first WAC Tournament title since 2021 after sweeping Abilene Christian 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16). The Wolverines’ season record improved to 15-10 while the Wildcats finish their 2025 season at 13-17.

Utah Valley had five Wolverines with at least five kills in the match as Sami Blackett led the team with nine kills. Bella Wooden registered a .700 hitting percentage with seven kills in 10 attempts with no errors. Wooden also collected the most total blocks in the match with six on the night. Natalie Riggs recorded the most assists (18) for the Wolverines while Lani Matavao led the team with 12 digs.

Abilene Christian’s Hannah Gonzalez also notched a match-high nine kills, finishing with a .500 hitting percentage. Gonzalez registered a .486 hitting percentage throughout the two matches played in the tournament.
