ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Tech’s Ethan Potter and Abilene Christian’s Cbo Newton have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 21.

Potter, a senior transfer forward, earned his second conference player of the week honor of the season after leading Utah Tech to a key 82-80 road victory at Weber State on Dec. 20. Potter scored a team-high 23 points and added eight rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot for the Trailblazers in the win, connecting on 9-of-17 shots (.529) from the field. Potter’s final made field goal with two seconds remaining lifted Utah Tech to the road triumph.

Newton, a redshirt sophomore transfer guard, was the top ACU player in a pair of top-10 road matchups at Big 12 foes last week. Newton averaged 20.0 points and 3.0 steals per game, shooting 65.4 percent (17-of-26) from the floor. Newton finished with 17 points and two steals in just under 22 minutes of action at No. 1 Arizona on Dec. 16 before going for 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting with four steals in a nationally televised contest at No. 10 BYU on Dec. 19.
