ARLINGTON, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) has officially announced its 2025 University Credit Union Indoor Track and Field major award winners. This year's recipients have set high standards with their impressive achievements, record-setting milestones, and critical contributions to their teams, marking a season of significant greatness.
WAC Men's Athlete of the Year
Justin Raines from Grand Canyon showcased his elite capabilities by securing the WAC titles in both the 60m and 200m. Raines achieved a remarkable time of 6.58 in the 60m during the preliminaries, setting a school record, and he won the final with a time of 6.64. In the 200m, he clocked in at 20.59 at the championships, affirming his top 20 national ranking in both events. These performances were crucial in propelling Grand Canyon to its eighth men's indoor team title in the past nine seasons.
Utah Valley's
Alex Hartshorn was named WAC Men's Freshman of the Year after his impressive debut season. Hartshorn clinched bronze medals at the WAC Championships by running the 3,000m in 8:21.47 and the 5,000m in 14:32.58. Additionally, Hartshorn set a personal record in the mile with a time of 4:14.22 at Utah State, showcasing his versatility and endurance across multiple distance events.
WAC Men's Coach of the Year
Tom Flood from Grand Canyon continued to build his impressive legacy at GCU. Flood led the Lopes to a staggering eight WAC indoor team titles in the last nine years. This season, under his guidance, the Lopes secured the team championship and demonstrated exceptional individual performances, with athletes setting multiple school and conference records. Flood’s leadership has been pivotal in maintaining Grand Canyon’s dominance in WAC track and field, showcasing his exceptional ability to develop top-tier athletic talent.
WAC Women's Athlete of the Year
Quincy Bonds from Utah Valley excelled in multiple sprint and hurdle events, setting new benchmarks and records. She clinched the WAC 60m hurdles title with a groundbreaking time of 8.18, a new meet record. Bonds also dominated in the sprint events, setting personal and school records in the 60m with a swift time of 7.35, and in the 200m with a time of 23.65. Bonds was named the WAC Women's Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the meet, a testament to her versatility and dominance in the 2024-2025 season.
WAC Women's Freshman of the Year
Victoria Cameron of Tarleton State burst onto the indoor collegiate track scene with a series of record-breaking performances, marking her as one of the most promising sprinters in the conference. Cameron set the WAC record for the 60m not once, but twice during the regular season, ultimately lowering it to 7.14. At the WAC Championships, she continued to impress by winning the 60m dash with a time of 7.21, setting a new championship meet record. Cameron’s performances throughout the season earned her two WAC Athlete of the Week honors and positioned her as a key competitor at the upcoming NCAA Championships.
WAC Women's Coach of the Year,
Scott Houle from Utah Valley further cemented his legacy with yet another standout season. Now in his 21st year at the helm, Houle has led his teams to an impressive total of 38 conference championships in indoor and outdoor track and field and cross country. Under his guidance, Utah Valley clinched its first indoor team title, showcasing the remarkable performances he consistently elicits from his athletes. With 79 NCAA track and field qualifiers under his coaching, Houle's strategy and expertise continue to position Utah Valley for ongoing success.
