ARLINGTON, Texas – Two-time defending champion Grand Canyon will look to complete a three-peat as the top overall seed in the 2025 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Golf Championship at Chapparal Pines in Payson, Arizona on April 25-27.
The Lopes, ranked 51st in NCAA Division I men’s golf according to Clippd, have won one team tournament, posted a total of three top-three finishes and accumulated over 100 head-to-head wins in 2024-25. GCU captured its home GCU Invitational in Phoenix in March and added a runner-up showing at the Southern Dunes Invitational last September and a third-place result at the Desert Mountain Collegiate in March. Six GCU players are ranked within the Clippd top 500 individual rankings, led by freshman
Matthew Diehl at 112.
Utah Valley earned the second seed at No. 126 in the Clippd rankings following two team wins and four total top three finishes thus far this season. The Wolverines captured the Utah Collegiate Shootout in October and opened the spring slate with a team title at the Mesquite Desert Classic in February. Powering Utah Valley has been the play of
Dane Huddleston, the top ranked player in the WAC at No. 62 in Clippd prior to the conference tournament. Huddleston has collected four tournament wins and six top threes over his first 10 starts this season, including three straight wins to end the fall and begin the spring campaign.
In the first WAC Men’s Golf Championship held at Chaparral Pines in 2024, GCU earned a one-stroke victory over California Baptist at 12-over-par 876 in a thrilling finish at the 54th hole. Seattle U’s
Kevin Li captured individual medalist honors with an impressive 6-under-par score of 210 (69-72-69), becoming the first freshman to win the individual WAC tournament title since 2015.
