Utah Valley Maintains Advantage At The 2025 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

ARLINGTON, Texas
– Utah Valley kept its hold over the leaderboard at the conclusion of competition on Friday evening on the second day of the 2025 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Maverick Stadium. The Wolverines scored 92 points after eight scored women’s events and 83 points following six scored men’s events to hold its lead in both sets of standings.

Tarleton State moved up to second in the women’s standings with 51 points, followed by UT Arlington with 49 points. UT Arlington rose to second in the men’s standings with 45 points and Tarleton State was third with 36 points.

UT Arlington’s Eliza Lemberga opened day two of the meet as the winner of the women’s heptathlon, scoring 5,367 points to take the event title. Lemberga added individual wins in the high jump (1.65m/5-5.0), the 800-meter run (2:21.17) and the javelin throw (43.12m/141-5.0) during the heptathlon. GCU’s Camdyn Bruner placed second after scoring 5,151 points, while ACU’s Natalie Poe scored 4,997 points to take third place.

Tarleton State’s Lokesh Sathyanathan secured the men’s long jump champion with the 10th-best jump in NCAA Division I this season, notching a 7.81m (25-7.50) effort in the fourth round that held up against the field. Teammate Sir Jonathan Sims was the long jump runner-up with a 7.50m (24-7.25) showing and Utah Valley’s Caleb Washington finished third with a 7.20m (23-7.50).

ACU’s Canaan Fairley denied a title defense from GCU’s Casey Tow in the men’s decathlon, outrunning Tow to the finish line in the 1500-meter run to win the competition by five points at 7,566. Behind the runner-up Tow with 7,561 points, UTA’s Brady Shadrick finished third with 7.051 points.

Lucy George from GCU claimed first place points in the women’s shot put thanks to a fifth round throw of 14.94m (49-0.25). Tarleton State’s Tayler Wessley was the runner-up with a 14.08m (46-2.50) in the final round, followed by ACU’s Sterling Glenn in third place with a 13.96m (45-9.75) showing.

Prestina Ochonogor from Tarleton State registered the fifth-best women’s long jump in NCAA DI this season, twice hitting a mark of 6.67m (21-10.75) to equal the WAC meet record and win the event. UTA’s Adeyemi Talabi PR’d with a final round 6.17m (20-3.0) for second place and Southern Utah’s Ajia Hughes completed the top of the podium in third place with final round 6.10m (20-0.25).

UTA’s Hayden Wilson was the only man to throw in excess of 18 meters in the men’s shot put, taking home the gold medal with a top throw of 18.31m (60-1.0). Teammate Desmond Frazier was the runner-up with a 17.57m (57-7.75) top mark and Tarleton State’s Mason Hill finished third with a 17.31m (56-9.50) attempt.

The top five finishers in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase wore the uniform of Utah Valley, led by conference champion Cameron Jacobs and his time of 9:00.09. Teammates Abdulsalam Farah (9:01.60) and Caleb Ream (9:02.63) joined Jacobs on the medal stand.

Oakley Olson brought home the first women’s 3000-meter steeplechase title for Utah Valley, ending a three-year run for CBU with a championship winning time of 10:40.13. Kaitlyn Gale from Tarleton State was runner-up with a time of 10:44.59, followed by Utah Valley’s Katelynn Emmons in third place with an 11:10.42 effort.

GCU’s Francisco Marques ran a blazing fast opening heat time in the men’s 110-meter hurdles prelims, crossing the line in a wind-aided 13.57 to set the pace. Tarleton State’s Caterrin Cox was the second automatic qualifier with a season-best time of 13.89 in heat two. Other finals qualifiers included ACU’s Miguel Hall (13.83), GCU’s Cameron Wilmington (13.92), Davicea McCartney (13.93) and Prosper Ekporere (13.98), and Tarleton State’s Omar Mahmoud (14.00) and Nathan Franco (14.21).

Utah Valley’s Quincy Bonds emerged from the second heat of the women’s 100-meter hurdles prelim heats to set the pace with a time of 13.49. Other automatic heat qualifiers were GCU’s Amanda Thrue (13.66) and Utah Valley’s Kali McEuen (13.67). Additional qualifiers for the finals were UTA’s Zaire Moore (13.66), ACU’s Hana Banks (13.80), Utah Tech’s Ashlyn Parish (13.90), UT Arlington’s Indyia Walton (13.96) and Tarleton State’s Malak Rashwan (13.99).

In the men’s 800-meter prelims, GCU’s Germaine Lemaitre posted the top time with a 1:50.58 finish. UTA’s Alex Kalmar (1:50.690 and Kash Powell (1:50.72) contributed automatic qualifying times. Utah Valley’s Alex Hartshorn (1:50.73), UTA’s Daniel Armstrong (1:50.94), Utah Valley’s Pierce Vittone (1:51.18) and Max Clemons (1:51.30) and ACU’s Benjamin Castro (1:51.80) rounded out the event finalists.

Laura Acuna from CBU logged the fastest women’s 800-meter run time after running a PR of 2:11.79 to secure the top finals seed. Southern Utah’s Kimberly Winward added a personal best of 2:12.38 and GCU’s Michaela Lewis chipped in a 2:12.59 for the third auto qualifying slot. UTA’s Winnie Kipsang (2:13.33), Southern Utah’s Josii Johnson (2:12.58), ACU’s Jalyn Childers (2:12.75), Utah Valley’s Jennaveve Bingham (2:12.94) and Utah Tech’s Lexi Larsen (2:13.36) will join the event finals.

Defending men’s 400-meter dash champion Jaedyn Carpenter from Southern Utah started his title defense with a preliminary time of 46.59. GCU’s Joshua Gittens clocked in with a 47.15 and UVU’s Cameron Franklin threw down a 47.21 for the third automatic qualifier bid. GCU’s Ben Stratman (47.49) and Sydney Peal (47.45), UTA’s Adam Herrera (47.50), Southern Utah’s Jackson Tarver (47.57) and Utah Valley’s Isaiah Archer (47.65) completed the top eight.

Hanna Dudley from Tarleton State locked up the top time in the women’s 400-meter dash prelim heats thanks to a time of 54.06. Teammate Taylor McFarland was right behind in 54.16, while GCU’s Taliyah Booker captured third with a time of 54.83. Utah Valley’s Ella Hopper (54.16), Grand Canyon’s Aaliyah Rifort-Delem (55.19), defending champion Alexis Cain from UTA (56.17) ACU’s Emma Santoro (56.36) and Utah Tech’s Whitney Christiansen (56.65) each added qualifying times.

Utah Valley’s Gabe Remy bested a competitive series of prelim heats in the men’s 100-meter dash, taking the first automatic bid in 10.39. Tarleton State’s Reid Vincent (10.52) and Utah Valley’s Kade Thompson (10.60) recorded the additional automatic times. Miguel Rosario (10.59) and Joseph Harding (10.65) from GCU and Eli England (10.70) and Khalid Mendez (10.72) from UTA bookended Tarleton State’s David Mvundura (10.69).

Tarleton State’s Victoria Cameron grabbed a second top qualifying time of the meet in the women’s 100-meter dash with a heat four time of 11.41. Teammate Lauren Roy was second in 11.53, UTA’s Adeyemi Talabi was third with a time of 11.70 and Utah Valley’s Quincy Bonds captured the final automatic spot in 11.77. Prestina Ochonogor and Amandine Estival (both 11.90) gave Tarleton State four of the eight event finalists.
