2025 WAC Men's Soccer Release - Week 3
FOUR WAC TEAMS REMAIN UNBEATEN AFTER TWO WEEKS
Four WAC teams closed the second week of nonconference play without yet enduring a loss in the standings. Utah Valley led the pack of unbeatens at 4-0-0, followed by California Baptist, Grand Canyon and San José State with matching 3-0-0 records. Utah Valley also debuted in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA DI rankings slotted 18th in the nation, while CBU was among the teams receiving votes.
UVU THE TOP TEAM ON OFFENSE AND DEFENSE
Keying the unbeaten start to the season for Utah Valley has been stellar play from the Wolverines on both ends of the pitch. Entering play on Sept. 4, Utah Valley led all WAC teams with 13 goals scored over its first four starts (3.25 goals per match) while being the only of the eight conference sides yet to surrender a goal in 2025. A total of nine different goal scorers have found the back of the net this season for the Wolverines, led by
Isaac Emojong and
Lewis Knecht with three goals each.
Kolby Sessions has presided over all four clean sheets as the Utah Valley goalkeeper, turning aside six total shots during 360 minutes of scoreless play. Utah Valley is believed to be the first WAC team since 1997 with at least four consecutive shutouts during a season, and the first to ever open a campaign with four straight clean sheets.
SJSU EQUALLY IMPRESSIVE IN BOTH PHASES
Along with Utah Valley, San José State has been impactful both in scoring goals and keeping opponents off the scoreboard during its three-match winning streak to begin the season. The Spartans have scored two goals in each of their three victories and have allowed only a single goal thus far in 2025, second only to Utah Valley. Goalkeeper
Edgar Guerra has been up to the task for San José State, ranking third in the conference in both saves (11) and saves per match (3.67).
GCU’S DIOUF EXTENDS CONFERENCE GOALS LEAD
Grand Canyon’s
Junior Diouf took over the solo lead in the WAC in scoring with his fourth goal in just three matches in his debut season. Diouf opened the GCU goal account in the 26th minute on the way to a 2-1 win over Sacramento State on Aug. 28.
HOME IS WHERE THE RESULTS ARE
The friendly confines of home have paid off for teams in the WAC to begin the regular season, with conference sides posting a combined 10-2-1 record in true home starts. Grand Canyon led the way at 3-0-0, followed by California Baptist and Utah Valley both at 2-0-0 in true home contests.
