ARLINGTON, Texas – San José State’s Arnold Matshazi, Grand Canyon’s Felipe Cobian and San Diego State’s Eddy Vargas have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 29.

Matshazi, a sophomore forward, continued his stellar debut season at San José State with an impactful offensive performance in a 2-0-0 week on the road for the Spartans. Matshazi cashed in the match-winning goal for San José State in the 74th minute for his sixth goal of the year in a 2-1 win at UC Davis on Sept. 24. Matshazi added four shots (two on goal) in an efficient 68-plus minutes of play in a 3-0 shutout at UC San Diego on Sept. 27.

Cobian, a junior defender, played the full 90 minutes on the GCU defense during a 2-0 shutout of CSUN on Sept. 26. The Lopes limited the opposition to five shots on goal in the victory. Cobian also joined the GCU attack by leading all players with six shot attempts of his own during the contest.

Vargas, a senior goalkeeper, stood tall for San Diego State in earning his second solo shutout of 2025 on Sept. 27 at Cal State Fullerton. Vargas was credited with 11 saves in the 1-0 clean sheet victory for the Aztecs, the most saves in a single match by a WAC goalkeeper thus far this season.
