2026 WAC SB Release - Week 2

TEXANS SWEEP SEASON-OPENING WEEKEND
For the second time in the program’s D-I era, Tarleton State starts the season 5-0 after sweeping Gardner-Webb’s Runnin’ Bulldog Classic. After defeating Youngstown State and Furman twice and Gardner-Webb once, the Texans are the only undefeated team left in the WAC. Tarleton State collected two run-rule victories, beating Furman 17-5 and Gardner-Webb 14-3.
 
THE LANCERS ARE MONEY IN LAS VEGAS
California Baptist opened the 2026 season with two run-rule shutouts in Las Vegas, including the season-opener at UNLV where the Lancers emerged victorious at 8-0, giving Brandon Telesco his first win as the Laners’ head coach. Cal transfer Miranda De Nava opened the season inside the pitching circle for CBU and delivered a complete five-inning game, striking out eight batters.
 
UT ARLINGTON RUNS UP 20 ON NEW MEXICO STATE
The Mavericks totaled 62 runs across five games in the New Mexico State/UTEP Tournament, which was capped off with a 20-12 victory over the Aggies. The Mavericks collected 19 hits in the game across 11 different players. Seven Mavericks recorded a multi-hit game led by Cameron Cooper who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. This week’s WAC Player of the Week, Mia McNulty went 2-for-4 in the game with two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.
 
UTAH VALLEY CLAIMS FIRST EXTRA-INNING WIN IN 2026
The first extra-inning victory in the WAC in 2026 went to Utah Valley who defeated UTEP 9-4 with a five-run eighth inning on Friday. Bailey Marvin broke the dam open with a two-run homer to centerfield in the top of the eighth to give UVU the lead. Brooklyn Ricci and Britney Moreno added onto the lead with a couple of RBI singles following the home run. Lily Riley got the win in the pitching circle and closed out the game going 3-up, 3-down with 2 strikeouts.
 
HOME OPENERS ON DECK FOR THE WAC
After the league began the 2026 season on the road, four WAC teams will host their home-openers this upcoming week. Abilene Christian will be the first WAC team to host with a Wednesday double-header against South Dakota State. California Baptist, Tarleton State and UT Arlington will be holding tournaments on their home turf this weekend.
