ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist’s Chris Ramirez and Sacramento State’s Ethan Lay have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 22.

Ramirez, a sophomore infielder, batted .500 with a home run, eight RBIs, eight runs and an .875 slugging percentage for CBU in a 3-1 week at home. Ramirez strung together three multi-hit games in a sweep of Evansville on March 20-22, notching three hits that included a grand slam and five RBIs in the second game of the series. Ramirez closed the weekend 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of runs scored in a 9-1 win for the Lancers.

Lay, a senior right-handed pitcher, spun a second straight stellar start to improve to 2-1 on the 2026 season for Sacramento State. In a 13-1 win over Winthrop on March 19, Lay allowed only a two-out double in the fourth inning as part of an eight-inning, one-hit performance, issuing no walks while striking out 11 Winthrop batters. Lay lowered his season ERA to 2.27 with the victory.
