ARLINGTON, Texas – California Baptist’s Dominique Daniels Jr. and Southern Utah’s Elijah Duval have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 8.

Daniels, a graduate guard, averaged 27.0 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game in the final two games of the regular season. Daniels outpaced Abilene Christian by halftime and sat the majority of the second half while still finishing with a game-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals in an 87-48 CBU victory on March 5. In the regular season finale at Southern Utah on March 7, Daniels’ game-high 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting proved to be the difference in the 82-75 win for the Lancers.

Duval, a freshman guard, was a standout for Southern Utah in a homestand against the top two teams in the WAC to close the regular season. Duval averaged 25.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 65.5 percent against Utah Valley and CBU. Duval connected on 8-of-12 field goals to finish with 20 points and four rebounds versus UVU in a 92-88 defeat on March 5, adding 30 points, four assists and four steals to his stat line in the setback against CBU on March 7.
