2024-25 WAC WBB Week 8 Release

GRAND CANYON'S WINNING STREAK SETS A PROGRAM RECORD
Grand Canyon went into the holiday break after sweeping its Have Fayth Christmas Classic and taking wins from Wright State, Florida Atlantic and Georgia Southern, winning the games by an average of 20.3 points. The Lopes extend their winning streak to nine straight games, with their last defeat coming against ranked Oregon on Nov. 18. The nine straight victories set a GCU D-I era record for longest winning streak as the Lopes move to 9-0 at home for the first time since 2013-14. Graduate forward Laura Erikstrup has been a key component in GCU's winning streak as Erikstrup has recorded double digit points in each of the last nine wins. The Lopes remain ninth in the latest Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.

ABILENE CHRISTIAN RETURNS FROM BREAK ON AN EIGHT-GAME HEATER
Abilene Christian emerged as champions at the Lobo Invitational claiming wins from Sacramento State and New Mexico, improving the Wildcats' winning streak to eight games. The winning streak is not going unnoticed as ACU received votes in the latest Mid-Major Poll for the first time this season. Sophomore guard Payton Hull took her second WAC Player of the Week award on the season after averaging 21.3 points per game last week and tallying a season-high 29 points against New Mexico. The Wildcats have the opportunity to close out 2024 on a nine-game winning streak as ACU hosts Nelson University for its final non-conference game of the season.

BREAKING RECORDS IN STEPHENVILLE
A week after setting a Tarleton State rebound record against a major conference opponent, sophomore center Faith Acker obtained another TSU D-I record by posting the highest field goal percentage in a game in the Texan's victory over Arkansas State. Acker shot 10-of-11 from the field (90.9 percent) for a season-high 21 points. The Texans then set a D-I single-game rebound record against St. Mary's (TX) as the team recorded 59 total boards. Eight different Texans grabbed at least four rebounds in the victory over the Rattlers. Tarleton State has won four of its last five games with the one loss coming against ranked Nebraska.

FINAL WEEK OF NON-CONFERENCE PLAY ON DECK
The WAC enters the final games of 2024 as well as the final week of non-conference play. California Baptist, Utah Tech, and Utah Valley have already concluded their non-conference slate and await the beginning of conference play on Jan. 4, but the rest of the league will have at least one more game to prepare for the second half of the season. The Wolverines enter league play on a two-game winning streak and the Lancers have taken wins in three of their last five games.
