2023-24 WAC Women's Basketball Release - WAC Tournament 

IT’S FINALLY TIME FOR WACVEGAS!

Tournament time has finally arrived. The 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament will take place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas from March 13-16. The top eight teams in the WAC standings during the 2023-24 season will have the chance to win a tournament title.

CBU CLAIMS TOP SPOT IN WAC RÉSUMÉ SEEDING SYSTEM
California Baptist secured the top seed in the 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament with 7.428 points in the final WAC Résumé Seeding System. Grand Canyon earned the second seed with 4.809 points to join the Lancers with a double-bye into the semifinal round. Stephen F. Austin placed third (1.399), Utah Tech was in fourth (-1.756), UT Arlington claimed fifth -1.915), Abilene Christian in sixth (-5.055), Tarleton State placed seventh (-7.960) and Southern Utah rounded out the tournament field with the eight seed (-9.030).
 
GOOD NEWS, WAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WILL BE ON TV!
The final game of the WAC women’s basketball championship will be shown live on ESPNU at 10:30 a.m. PT on March 16. The 2024 women’s championship contest will mark the first WAC women’s title game to be carried live on linear TV since 2016.

CBU LOOKS TO SECURE SECOND WAC TOURNAMENT TITLE
The last time California Baptist won the outright WAC Regular Season Title and its first ever WAC Tournament Title was the 2020-21 season as the Lancers had an unbeaten conference record of 14-0 (24-1 overall). As California Baptist claimed the No.1 seed in the 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Tournament, it looks to secure its second WAC Tournament Title. The top-seeded team has won 20 tournament titles in WAC history.

California Baptist’s senior guard Chloe Webb earned WAC Player of the Year after being the WAC leading scorer, averaging 22.35 points per game in conference play. She became the first player since the 2013-2014 season (Eilise O’Connor, UMKC, 22.8) to average 22 plus points per game during WAC play. She also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 2.75 steals and a  53.5 field goal percentage. Webb led the conference in 30-point games (four), 20-point games (18), second in total steals (76), was tied for third in the double-double category (eight), third in free throw percentage (80.5%), and fourth in rebounding (7.79 per game). She ranks 12th in the nation in points per game with 21.28.

DEFEND YOUR DESTINI    
Stephen F. Austin’s redshirt senior guard Destini Lombard earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year after being tied for first in steals per game with 2.75 during WAC play. She led the ‘Jacks with 80 steals and is fourth on the team with 17 blocks. Lombard is tied 20th in the nation in total steals, 26th with 2.58 steals per game, and 41st in assists to turnover ratio with 2.18.

PAY A TON OF ATTENTION TO THIS  
Abilene Christian’s Payton Hull secured WAC Freshman of the Year after having an impressive freshman season. She led the WAC in 3-pointers with 79, shooting 34.1 percentage. She recorded 16.68 points per game in conference play, ranking fourth in the WAC. Hull had six games in which she scored 20 or more points, including back-to-back 30-point games against Navy (34) and UT Arlington (31).

STEPPIN OFF THE BENCH LIKE SHE GOT SOMETHING TO PROVE
Grand Canyon’s graduate student Laura Erikstrup claimed WAC Sixth Player of the Year after averaging 6.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game coming off the bench during WAC play. She shot a team-leading 60 percent from the field. Erikstrup recorded five double-digit performances, tallying a season-high 24 points against Southern Utah on Jan. 4.
