2024 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament Central

LAS VEGAS – The quarterfinal round of the 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament saw No. 5 UT Arlington and No. 3 Stephen F. Austin advanced to the semifinals. The semifinal round will take place on Friday, March 15 at the Orleans Arena.

No. 5 UT Arlington will take on No. 1 California Baptist at 12 p.m. PT. No. 3 Stephen F. Austin will compete against No. 2 Grand Canyon at 2:30 p.m. PT for the second semifinal match of the day.

No. 5 UT Arlington 72, No. 4 Utah Tech 57 | Box Score

Defensive prowess led No. 5 UT Arlington to knock off No. 4 Utah Tech, 72-57 in the quarterfinal round of the WAC Tournament. The Mavs outrebounded Utah Tech 39-35 and recorded more steals (6). The Trailblazers conclude the 2023-24 season at 18-14.  

Senior forward Avery Brittingham led UT Arlington with a dominant performance recording her second consecutive double-double with a career-high 27 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Nya Threatt had a near double-double with 12 points and nine assists. Taliyah Clark finished with 10 points, scoring six in the fourth quarter, while adding four rebounds and two assists.

Fifth year guard Breaunna Gillen and freshman guard Calyn Dallas led the charge with 21 points each. Gillen also chipped in seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore forward Alyson Deaver tallied 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Fifth year guard Maggie McCord recorded a team-high eight rebounds and added four assists.

No. 3 Stephen F. Austin 70, No. 7 Tarleton State 58 | Box Score

No. 3 Stephen F. Austin defeated No. 7 Tarleton State, 70-58 on Thursday afternoon. The ‘Jacks moved on to 21-11 on the season, while the Texans ended their season with an overall record of 11-20.

Redshirt senior center Kurstyn Harden recorded a game-high 25 points for Stephen F. Austin and added five rebounds. The 2023-24 WAC Defensive Player of the Year Destini Lombard tallied a near triple-double with 15 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Sophomore guard Kyla Deck chipped in 14 points.

The Texans were led by junior guard Tyler Jackson who recorded a season-high 19 points while adding six rebounds. Junior guard Elise Turrubiates tallied 12 points and six rebounds. Freshman center Faith Acker recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
