University Credit Union WAC Men’s Soccer Players Of The Week Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Bright Nutornutsi, UNLV’s Brophy Howard and California Baptist’s Hugo Do Rego have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Aug. 26.

Nutornutsi, a junior forward, scored his first two goals of 2024 during a 3-0 shutout victory against Western Illinois on Aug. 22. Nutornutsi attempted three total shots in 61 minutes of play, tallying the first GCU goal of the season at 36:41 before adding an insurance tally just 45 seconds later to give the Lopes a 2-0 lead at 37:26.

Howard, a senior midfielder, played all 90 minutes for UNLV in a 2-0 shutout of Tulsa on Aug. 22. The Rebels held the Golden Hurricane to five total shots on goal, including none in the first half, during the match. Howard scored the match-winning goal at 63:50, notching his second career goal to open the 2024 scoring account for UNLV.

Do Rego, a sophomore goalkeeper, made his CBU debut with a pair of shutouts during an East Coast road trip. Do Rego registered two saves in a scoreless draw at American University on Aug. 22 before turning aside nine shots on goal, including five in the second half, in a 0-0 tie at No. 6 North Carolina on Aug. 25.
