WAC WSOC25 Release Week 8

UTAH VALLEY DOMINATES IN THE FIRST WEEK OF WAC PLAY
Utah Valley kicked off the conference season with a couple of dominant performances as the Wolverines tallied 10 goals in two matches, shutting out Tarleton State 5-0 and defeating Abilene Christian 5-1. Faith Webber and Nixan Jackson each recorded a brace against the Texans with Josie Shepherd also scoring a pair of goals against the Wildcats. Ruby Hladek recorded a goal in each match and Jacey Wood was able to find the back of the net against ACU. Jackson was awarded this week’s WAC Offensive Player of the Week award after totaling two goals and four assists for eight points.

WESTLUND AND HELD GIVE LANCERS A STRONG CONFERENCE START
California Baptist is also off to a hot start in WAC play as the Lancers defeated Abilene Christian 2-1 and Tarleton State 2-0. Taylor Held was the difference maker for CBU in the match against the Wildcats as she broke the 1-1 tie in the final 30 seconds of the match with a header off a free kick. The rest of the Lancer offense consisted mostly around Ava Westlund as she scored the other three goals for CBU last week including the first goal against ACU and the lone two scores in the match against the Texans.

UTAH TECH HOLDS OFF SOUTHERN UTAH
Utah Tech was able to outlast Southern Utah in a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon for its third road win of the season, the most in the WAC. The Trailblazers were able to cash in two first-half goals from Kyah Le and Jocelyn Wright, both notching their third goals of the season. The Thunderbirds were able to find the net early in the second half but was held scoreless for the rest of the match as Brianna Frey was able to pick up three second half saves for Utah Tech.

A LOOK AHEAD AT WEEK EIGHT
The Texas schools will host the Utah schools this upcoming week as Utah Tech and Southern Utah will each play a match at Abilene Christian and Tarleton State. The match to watch this week will take place on Friday, Oct. 3 with the two 2-0 teams in WAC play, Utah Valley and California Baptist, facing off at UCCU Stadium in a fight for the top of the WAC standings and in a rematch of last year’s WAC tournament semifinals where CBU defeated UVU 3-2.
