ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Whitney Gardner, Utah Tech’s Abby Olsen and California Baptist’s Mikayla O’Brien have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Soccer Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 22.

Gardner, a redshirt-senior forward, led Southern Utah to a 3-2 win over Portland State as Gardner scored the game-tying goal in the 70^th minute of the match and assisted on the game-winning goal just six minutes later to lift the Thunderbirds to their first victory right before conference play. The three-point game gave her the all-time points record at Southern Utah with 48 total career points.
 
Olsen, a freshman defender, anchored the Utah Tech back line for all 90 minutes against Portland State as the Trailblazers held Vikings to just one goal and one shot on goal. Olsen and UTU’s strong defensive showing allowed the Utah Tech offense to score two goals late in the match to earn the 2-1 victory.
 
O’Brien, a senior goalkeeper, picked up her second WAC Goalkeeper of the Week honor this season after tallying seven saves and a .875 save percentage in California Baptist’s match against Weber State. This is O’Brien’s third game of the season collecting seven or more saves.
