WAC PLAY BEGINS TOMORROW!!
The first week of 2025 WAC women’s soccer play is set to kick off tomorrow Thursday, Sept. 25 with Tarleton State at Utah Valley and Abilene Christian at California Baptist. Utah Tech and Southern Utah will play their first conference match on Sunday, Sept. 28. Utah Valley will look to defend its 2024 regular season title by having a third straight unbeaten conference season as the Wolverines have not lost a conference match in the last 22 contests dating back to 2022.
TARLETON STATE SETS NON-CONFERENCE PROGRAM RECORD
The Texans notched the best non-conference record in the WAC this season at 6-2-2, also the best non-conference record in program history. The record-breaking win came in dominant fashion as the Tarleton State defeated Schreiner 9-0 with four different Texans scoring two goals. Tarleton State currently has the seventh best goal differential in the country at +21 with the WAC’s lead scorer,
Stevie Reynolds, ranking third in the nation in total goals with nine.
GARDNER CONTINUES TO MAKE SOUTHERN UTAH HISTORY
Southern Utah overcame a 2-1 deficit in the second half of the match against Portland State with two goals to secure the Thunderbirds’ first victory of the 2025 season. This week’s WAC Offensive Player of the Week,
Whitney Gardner, scored the game-tying goal and assisted the game-winning goal just six minutes later to seal the win. With those three points, Gardner became the all-time career points leader in Southern Utah history with 48, breaking a 15-year-old program record.
UTAH TECH RALLIES LATE OVER PORTLAND STATE
Utah Tech wrapped up its non-conference season with a 2-1 comeback victory at home versus Portland State. The Trailblazers trailed 1-0 late into the second half but then flipped the script with two goals in less than five minutes with
Jocelyn Wright scoring the equalizer in the 77th minute and
Bre Koscielski notching the game-winner in the 82nd minute. Utah Tech’s defense held the Vikings to just one shot on goal, leading to freshman defender
Abby Olsen winning this week’s WAC Defensive Player of the Week.
