WAC WSOC25 Release Week 11

UTAH TECH PICKS UP TWO SHUTOUTS
It was a perfect defensive weekend for Utah Tech as the Trailblazers picked up two shutout victories coming against Tarleton State 1-0 and Abilene Christian 2-0. Abby Olsen and Brianna Frey were named the WAC Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, as Olsen and the Utah Tech defense allowed a combined five shots on goal between both matches with Frey coming up with the five saves and two shutouts. The Trailblazers kept the Wildcats from getting a shot on frame, marking the first time Utah Tech has blanked an opponent in shots on goal in the D-I era.

WOLVERINES WIN IN 40 SECONDS
Chaos ensued in the 77th minute of the match between Utah Valley and California Baptist as the Wolverines scored twice within a 40-second span for the equalizer and the game-winner to defeat the Lancers 2-1 for UVU’s first-ever win at Riverside. Marie Quentel notched the first UVU goal at 76:07 with a header off a cross, then just 40 seconds later, this week’s WAC Offensive Player of the Week, Ruby Hladek, scored her 10th goal of the season at 76:47 to secure the comeback win for the Wolverines. Following the win, Utah Valley improved to 46th in the NCAA RPI rankings.

SOUTHERN UTAH LEAPS INTO POTENTIAL TOURNAMENT SPOT
Southern Utah tallied four points last weekend with a 1-0 win over Abilene Christian and a 1-1 draw with Tarleton State to jump over the two Texas teams into fourth place in the WAC standings and into the potential final spot for the WAC Tournament. Dakota Hansen scored the game-winner for the Thunderbirds versus the Wildcats with Jazmyn Brass collecting six saves in the match for the shutout. Sarah Assumma recorded her team-leading fourth goal of the season against the Texans.
