ARLINGTON, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Meredith Mayes and UT Arlington’s Kira Reynolds have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Dec. 7.
 
Mayes, a junior center, collected two double-doubles last week with 20 points and 13 rebounds against McMurry followed by 19 points and 13 boards against East Texas A&M, leading Abilene Christian to a pair of victories. Mayes shot 76.2 percentage over both games, making 16 shots from the field over 21 attempts, as she led the WAC last week in field goal percentage and total rebounds (26). Mayes notched six steals against East Texas A&M, a career-high, and committed zero turnovers in both games. Currently across the conference, Mayes ranks first in field goal percentage (.709), third in scoring (15.67), fourth in free throw percentage (.763), sixth in rebounding (8.44) and eighth in steals (2.11).
 
Reynolds, a freshman forward, picked up her second consecutive WAC Newcomer of the Week award after leading UT Arlington to a 62-55 victory over Little Rock, notching her fourth double-double of the year with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The 22 points was a team-high for UTA as Reynolds shot 66.7 percent from the field, making eight shots on 12 attempts. Reynolds also recorded four blocks, two steals and one assist in the game. Reynolds leads the WAC in defensive rebounds (7.67) and is tied for the conference lead in blocked shots (3.33) and double-doubles (4).
