2025 WAC Basketball Tournament Central
LAS VEGAS – Physical defensive battles were the theme of the 2025 WAC Women’s Basketball semifinal round as No. 1 Grand Canyon and No. 3 UT Arlington defended the post to earn a trip to Saturday’s championship game. The Lopes and the Lady Mavs will fight for the WAC tournament title and for an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament at 12:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 15.
No. 1 Grand Canyon 84, No. 5 Utah Valley 55 | Box Score
No. 1 Grand Canyon kept on rolling as the Lopes defeated No. 5 Utah Valley 84-55 to advance to their first WAC championship since 2022 and look for their first WAC title. Grand Canyon claimed its 29th consecutive win, tying the all-time WAC record set by Louisiana Tech in 2002-03.
The Lopes had no trouble finding the basket this afternoon, recording a team field goal percentage of 61.8 percent (34-of-55). Senior guard Alyssa Durazo-Frescas continues to be the hottest 3-point shooter in the country as she posted a career-high 28 points, making 7-of-11 shots from beyond the arc. Graduate guard/forward Tiarra Brown collected 12 points along with two boards, two steals and two assists. GCU forced 24 turnovers and held Utah Valley to just one player notching over ten points.
Junior guard Kylee Mabry led the Wolverines offensively, scoring 16 points after making all five attempts on the floor and making six of eight free throws. Utah Valley concludes one of the program’s most successful seasons at 18-12.
No. 3 UT Arlington 66, No. 2 Tarleton State 55 | Box Score
No. 3 UT Arlington won the season series and the battle of the Lone Star State against No. 2 Tarleton State as the Lady Mavs take down the Texans 66-55. UTA will make its first appearance in the WAC championship game.
The Lady Mavs’ dynamic duo of the fifth-year forwards Avery Brittingham and Koi Love struck once again as the pair notched 15 points apiece. In a tied 52-52 ballgame with less than three minutes remaining, UT Arlington went on an 11-0 run that included seven points from freshman guard Kendal Robinson. Robinson finished the contest with 11 points and was a perfect 4-of-4 on the court. Robinson’s 3-pointer with 2:10 remaining on the clock was the only made UTA 3-pointer the entire game.
Sophomore center Faith Acker and senior guard Arieona Rosborough each got a double-double in the game, with Acker posting 12 points and 11 rebounds and Rosborough registering 11 points and 11 boards. Senior guard Jakoriah Long also recorded 12 points and collected a team-high four blocks. Tarleton State rounds out the season with an overall record of 20-13.
