Tarleton State, Abilene Christian’s Ryann Honea to Represent WAC in NCAA Regionals

ARLINGTON, Texas – After winning the Western Athletic Conference’s (WAC) women’s golf championship at the Wigwam Golf Club last week, Tarleton State found out on Wednesday that it will be headed to Lubbock, Texas for the NCAA Regionals on May 5-7. Abilene Christian’s Ryann Honea, who finished runner-up individually at the WAC championship, will also head to the Lubbock Regional as the No. 1 individual seed. The Lubbock Regional will be played at The Rawls Course and will be hosted by Texas Tech. 

The Tarleton State women’s golf team earned the Texans’ first ever automatic berth into an NCAA tournament in Tarleton State’s NCAA Division I era after winning the WAC championship with a final team score of 12-over-par 876 (294-283-299). The Texans locked the No. 11 seed and will be joined by Texas, Wake Forest, Arizona, Texas A&M, Iowa State, Tennessee, Purdue, Campbell, UC Davis, Florida Gulf Coast and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

Honea, who secured the silver at the WAC championship with a 6-under 210, secured the No. 1 individual seed and will compete as one of the six individuals at the Lubbock Regional.

The top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) from each regional site will advance to compete in the national championships to be played May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
