No. 5 Tarleton State and No. 6 UT Arlington Pull Off Upsets in WAC Women’s Quarterfinal Games

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The quarterfinal round of the 2026 Air Force Reserve WAC Women’s Basketball Tournament saw the lower seeds of No. 5 Tarleton State and No. 6 UT Arlington pull off nail-biting upsets to advance to the semifinals. The Texans defeated No. 4 Utah Valley 60-57 and will meet with the WAC regular season champions No. 1 California Baptist on Friday at 12 p.m. PT.
 
The Lady Mavs carried their winning ways from the opening round into this afternoon as No. 6 UT Arlington took down No. 3 Southern Utah 70-65 to advance to the semifinals where it will square off with No. 2 Abilene Christian on Friday at 2:30 p.m. PT.
 
No. 5 Tarleton State 60, No. 4 Utah Valley 57 | Box Score
 
In their fourth meeting this season, No. 5 Tarleton State was finally able to get the upper hand against No. 4 Utah Valley for the first time on the year after overcoming an 11-point deficit with under 13 minutes of game time remaining. The Texans finished the game with a seven-point run, highlighted by the game-winning 3-pointer from Kyriana Jones and a pair of clutch free throws from Elodie Lutbert.
 
Lutbert led Tarleton State with 15 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double. Jakoriah Long and Caroline Lyles both collected 11 points in the contest.
 
The Wolverines were led by Kaylee Headrick who notched 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. Amanda Barcello and Cambree Blackham also reached double-figure scoring with Barcello posting 15 points and Blackham reaching 10 points to go along with a game-high seven assists.
 
No. 6 UT Arlington 70, No. 3 Southern Utah 65 | Box Score
 
No. 6 UT Arlington was also able to pick up their first win of the season against No. 3 Southern Utah after going 0-3 against the Thunderbirds in the regular season. The Lady Mavs return to the tournament semifinals for the third consecutive year.
 
Kira Reynolds notched another 20-point outing for the second straight day with a game-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor and 9-of-11 shooting from the free throw line. Jadyn Atchison trailed Reynolds on the UTA scoring sheet with 13 points followed by Kendal Robinson with 10 points.
 
Morgan Trigueiro kept the game close for Southern Utah after draining two late 3-pointers to finish the game with 10 points on a perfect 3-of-3 night from beyond the arc. Brooklyn Fely and Ava Uhrich led the scoring for the Thunderbirds with 13 points each.
