Kaden Carpenter and Utah Tech’s
Talan Kelly have been named the
University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 1.
Carpenter, a senior transfer outfielder, batted .471 with two home runs, 11 RBIs and six runs scored in a 3-1 week for Utah Valley that included a series victory over UC Riverside. Carpenter registered three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games during the Utah Valley week. Carpenter drove in three runs on Feb. 27, contributed three RBIs and scored two runs in game one of a doubleheader on Feb. 28 and logged three hits, including two home runs, with four RBIs and three runs scored in the nightcap on Feb. 28.
Kelly, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, made two relief appearances last week in a pair of wins for Utah Tech over Northern Colorado. Kelly struck out the side in the ninth inning of an 11-5 Utah Tech victory on Feb. 28 before spinning 1.1 innings of no-hit baseball with two strikeouts, earning the win in a 6-4 decision for the Trailblazers.
