TARLETON STATE USES SEVEN-RUN EIGHTH INNING TO COMPLETE THE SWEEP
The Texans have climbed their way to a tie at the top of the WAC standings after claiming their third straight WAC series win, and fifth consecutive conference victory, with a three-game sweep over Utah Valley. The Texans rallied from a 9-6 deficit in game three with a seven-run eighth inning to complete the comeback and secure the sweep. Tarleton State averaged 11.0 runs per game in the series.
PALMER’S NO-HIT BID LEADS TO CBU SERIES WIN
California Baptist took the rubber match in the series versus Utah Tech following a two-hit combined shutout from
Ryne Palmer and
Zachary Yates. Palmer went 5.2 innings before allowing his first hit of the game in a season-high six-inning showing on the mound for CBU. Yates collected his fourth save of the season and struck out three batters in the final three innings.
SACRAMENTO STATE DEFEATS NO. 1 UCLA
Sacramento State made history on Sunday and won its first-ever game against the No. 1 ranked team in the country with a 9-6 victory over No. 1 UCLA. This is their third win against a two-top nationally ranked team this season, with the first two coming against No. 2 LSU on March 7 & 8. The win was no fluke as the Hornets were competitive in all three games against the Bruins, losing by just one and two runs, respectively, in the first two games. Seven different Hornets posted at least one RBI in the game, with
Jakob Poturnak hitting a two-run home run in part of a five-run third inning.
Carson Timothy picked up the birthday win on the mound, allowing just three earned runs and striking out five throughout five innings of work.
ACU WALKS OFF UTA WITH 10TH INNING BORHO SINGLE
Abilene Christian won its third game this season in walk-off fashion on Saturday when
Reese Borho delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning against UT Arlington, leading ACU to the 9-8 victory.
JT Thompson was a big offensive producer for the Wildcats this weekend, going 8-for-12 (.667) in the series win over UTA with four RBIs and five runs scored.
