STRONG STARTS ON THE MOUND FOR CBU LEADS TO SERIES WIN
California Baptist is now 2-0 in WAC series this season after taking 2-of-3 games against UT Arlington. The Lancers were backed by a pair of key performances on the mound from
Michael Malki and this week’s WAC Pitcher of the Week,
Bryan Peck. Malki collected 10 strikeouts and allowed just one run in seven innings in the series opener while Peck helped secure the series win with eight strong frames where he surrendered just five hits and one earned run. The Lancers check in at 57th in the latest NCAA RPI rankings.
TARLETON STATE HOLDS OFF LATE ACU RALLY TO CLAIM THE I-20 SHOWDOWN
Tarleton State held a comfortable 10-3 lead heading into the ninth inning of the rubber match with Abilene Christian, but the Wildcats wouldn’t go down without a fight as ACU scored six runs off four hits and three walks. The Texans would go on to hold off the Wildcats for the 10-9 win and the series victory.
Slade McCloud and
Jake Tatom combined for four hits and eight RBIs in the game.
HORNETS WIN THEIR FIRST WAC SERIES OF THE SEASON
Sacramento State notched its first WAC series win on the year after defeating Utah Valley 9-5 in the Saturday rubber match.
Trevor Wilson got the win on the mound after tossing five scoreless innings and not allowing any hits.
Ethan Lay continued his dominance for the Hornets in the first game of the Friday double-header, as he nearly went the distance with only two earned runs allowed in eight innings pitched while totaling 10 strikeouts.
MAVERICKS DROP 19 RUNS ON THE LANCERS
UT Arlington lit up the bats in the second game of the Saturday double-header with CBU, scoring a season-high 19 runs for a 19-1 run-rule victory. Five Mavericks recorded multiple hits led by
Hank Harp and
Noah Fields who each posted four hits. Harp’s four runs scored led eight different Mavericks who came across the plate at least once.
Xavier Melendez and
Xander McAfee combined for nine RBIs in the contest.
WILDCATS GRAB THE FROGS BY THE HORNS
Abilene Christian got its redemption on TCU after falling to the Horned Frogs 7-6 earlier in the season with a 4-1 win last Tuesday.
Kanon Sundgren went 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI single.
JT Thompson also drove in two runs in part of a 2-for-3 day.
