ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington’s Xavier Melendez and California Baptist’s Bryce Peck have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, April 12.
 
Melendez, a senior infielder, posted multiple hits in all four UT Arlington games last week, finishing with a .563 weekly batting average. Melendez led the Mavericks to a monster 19-1 win over California Baptist on Sunday where he went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, five total RBIs and three runs scored. Melendez also notched a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a first-inning two-run homer in the midweek game against Baylor. Melendez concluded the week with eight RBIs and five runs scored. Melendez holds the second best batting average in the WAC with a .383 season average.
 
Peck, a graduate right-handed pitcher, helped California Baptist clinch the series victory over UT Arlington with eight strong innings on the mound in the first game of the Saturday double-header, where the Lancers pulled off the 6-4 win. Peck surrendered just one earned run off five hits and no walks while tallying three strikeouts. Peck improved his season record to 5-0, the second most wins in the WAC.
