2026 WAC Baseball Weekly Release - Week 6
CBU CONTINUES ROLLING TOWARD WAC START
Winners of 14 of the past 17 games, California Baptist enters the last weekend before WAC competition begins with a 2026 record of 21-5 (.808). The Lancers led all WAC foes in team batting average (.320), runs scored (201), hits (294) and doubles (68) as of March 26. CBU also owned the best team ERA (3.21) and most strikeouts (324 in 238.0 IP).
RAMIREZ TEARS THE COVER OFF THE BALL FOR THE LANCERS

Chris Ramirez was named WAC Player of the Week on March 23 after batting .500 with eight RBIs and eight runs scored in four games last week for the Lancers. Ramirez kept going in a 12-1 win over UC Riverside on March 24, finishing the midweek matchup 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs in the CBU victory.
LAY THROWS A SECOND STRAIGHT MASTERPIECE FOR SAC STATE

Ethan Lay picked up his first WAC Pitcher of the Week accolade of the 2026 season on March 23 following a second stellar start in as many appearances on the mound for the Hornets. In a 13-1 Sacramento State win over Winthrop on March 19, Lay allowed a lone double in the fourth inning during a one-hit start over eight frames, issuing no walks while striking out 11 opposing batters. In his past two starts for Sacramento State (15.0 IP), Lay has scattered just three hits and issued one walk while striking out 17.
THE WAC IN THE NCAA STAT RANKINGS
According to the most recent NCAA Division I statistical standings that were released on March 25, Tarleton State was the top ranked team in the nation with 30 double plays and 1.25 double plays turned per game. California Baptist was ranked third in doubles (68), fourth in hits (294) and fifth in doubles per game (2.62). The CBU pitching staff also checked in fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (12.3) and sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.52). Individually, CBU’s
Michael Malki was fifth in pitching victories (5) and
Bryce McFeely was sixth in doubles (12). Abilene Christian’s
Diego Cardenas was ranked sixth in total bases (83), seventh in home runs (13) and eighth in RBIs (39).
WAC IN THE NCAA RPI
In the latest NCAA RPI rankings that were released on March 25, Tarleton State was the top ranked WAC team sitting at 90th. California Baptist, ranked 111th in the RPI, was a perfect 3-0 against teams in Quad 1.
