ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s
Rayner Heinrich and UT Arlington’s
Ty Zahradnik have been named the
University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, March 29.
Heinrich, a sophomore utility player, batted .556 over the week which included two home runs and two doubles along with six RBIs and seven runs scored. Heinrich contributed to all three Texan runs against Lamar on Tuesday as he went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored. Heinrich then led Tarleton State to a three-game sweep over Air Force, a series where Heinrich notched two games with at least three hits. Heinrich went 3-for-4 with a solo home run against the Falcons on Friday and was a triple shy of the cycle on Sunday as he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Heinrich currently holds the best season OPS in the WAC at 1.246 and ranks second in batting average at .400.
Zahradnik, a redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher, helped UT Arlington complete the weekend sweep over Villanova after commanding the Wildcats for 8.1 innings on the mound and earning his first win of the season. Zahradnik shut down the Villanova bats on Sunday as he allowed just one earned run off two hits and racked up a career-high eight strikeouts.
