2026 WAC Baseball Weekly Release - Week 7

NO FOOLING ABOUT IT: WAC PLAY STARTS TOMORROW!
The wait is over: WAC baseball league-play kicks off tomorrow, April 2 as the conference’s seven teams will begin their fight to claim one of six spots in the WAC Tournament in Mesa, Arizona on May 20-23. California Baptist has accumulated the best overall record in the first half of the season at 24-5 and will begin its conference slate at Abilene Christian. Tarleton State will take its winning streak to UT Arlington and Utah Tech will host Sacramento State. Utah Valley will start its WAC season next weekend when the Wolverines travel to Sacramento State.

LUCKY NO. 7 FOR CALIFORNIA BAPTIST
California Baptist remained hot on the diamond as the Lancers picked up their seventh consecutive win after a three-game sweep at St. John’s. The Lancers outscored the Red Storm 21-6 in the series. CBU’s 24-5 overall record makes the Lancers the holder of the sixth-best winning percentage in the nation (.828). Out of the nine highest winning percentages in NCAA DI baseball, CBU is the only team not coming from a power four conference.

TARLETON STATE SWEEPS THE SEASON SERIES WITH BAYLOR
Tarleton State enters conference play on a four-game winning streak after sweeping Air Force and defeating Baylor for the second time this season. Cage McCloud and Brady Englett each knocked one out of the park against the Bears with McCloud’s three-run homer in the second inning being the eventual game-winner. After giving up a home run to the first Baylor batter of the game, the Texan pitching staff shut out the Bears for the remainder of the game by throwing eight shutout innings with Ashton Bassett earning his first win of the season.

UT ARLINGTON BRINGS OUT THE BROOMS ON VILLANOVA
The Mavericks are heating up heading into WAC play as winners of four of their last five games, including a three-game sweep over Villanova. The UTA bats brought the power in the first two games of the series, with the Mavs scoring nine and 11 runs in games one and two, respectively. Game three came down to a pitcher’s duel with this week’s WAC Pitcher of the Week, Ty Zahradnik, throwing a near complete game with 8.1 innings on the mound, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while collecting a career-high eight strikeouts.
