ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s
Slade McCloud and Grand Canyon’s
Connor Mattison have been named the
University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 16.
McCloud, a senior infielder, led a potent Tarleton State offense that batted. 385 with 58 runs scored in just four games against Butler to open the season. McCloud batted .550 with three RBIs, six stolen bases and eight runs scored across his four starts. McCloud went 3-for-4 with two steals and two runs scored on Feb. 14, a combined 6-for-10 with four stolen bases, two RBIs and four runs scored in a doubleheader on Feb. 15 and 2-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored on Feb. 16 against Butler.
Mattison, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, logged a solid outing for GCU in relief against No. 16 Vanderbilt on Feb. 14. Mattison threw the final five innings and scattered three hits with no walks and six strikeouts on 59 pitches to keep GCU in the ballgame in a narrow 4-3 defeat.
