ARLINGTON, Texas – Grand Canyon’s Emilio Barreras and Sacramento State’s Evan Gibbons have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 23.

Barreras, a junior infielder, was on fire for GCU in a 4-1 homestand against Big 10 opposition. Barreras batted .632 with a .708 on-base percentage and a .789 slugging percentage with a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored against No. 23 Nebraska and Rutgers. Barreras registered multiple hit games in four of his five starts on the week, logging three base hits on three different occasions. Against Rutgers in the second game of a doubleheader on Feb. 22, Barreras safely reached six times after going 3-for-3 with three walks, adding an RBI and scoring three times for the Lopes in a win.

Gibbons, a senior right-handed pitcher, picked up his first win of 2025 following a stellar start against Ball State on Feb. 21. Gibbons spun six innings of two-hit baseball, walking two while striking out eight on an even 100 pitches in a 2-0 Sacramento State victory that ultimately salvaged a split in the series.
