ARLINGTON, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Diego Cardenas and Dominick Reid have been named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Saturday, May 17.

Cardenas, a junior infielder, enjoyed a huge week for ACU in a 2-2 final week of the regular season that included a series win at California Baptist. Cardenas batted a blistering .526 with five home runs, 15 RBIs, a 1.316 slugging percentage and six runs scored in four games as the designated hitter. Cardenas had two hits, including a homer, and two RBIs in a setback to Texas Tech on May 13 and drove in three runs in a loss to open the series against CBU on May 15 before exploding with three home runs and nine RBIs in a 12-2 win in eight innings on May 16. Cardenas finished the CBU series 3-for-5, clubbing the ultimate game-winning home run in the seventh inning, to help ACU clinch a share of the conference regular-season title in a 7-6 victory on May 17.

Reid, a junior right-handed pitcher, was in command of his final regular season start against CBU on May 16. Reid allowed just two base hits and walked two batters over six shutout innings, striking out nine Lancers on 100 pitches in a 12-2 win in eight innings to even the series.
