ARLINGTON, Texas – Tarleton State’s Aya Ishii and Marissa Minetti have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tennis Players of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Feb. 9.
 
Ishii, a freshman, compiled a 3-0 record on the week, winning her 10^th straight set in singles. Ishii defeated Collin County CC’s Marqaylar Tere 6-2, 6-0 on No. 1 singles and took down Oral Roberts’ Cecilia Franzin 6-0, 6-1 and McNeese’s Alexas Martinez 6-1, 6-3 on No. 2 singles. Her match versus McNeese tied the team score 1-1, helping the Texans sweep singles and get the comeback win.
 
Ishii and Minetti, freshmen, won their fourth consecutive doubles match as a duo with three wins this weekend. The pair won matches against Collin County CC 6-2 in No. 1 doubles, Oral Roberts 6-4 and McNeese 6-0 in No. 2 doubles. The duo became the first freshman duo in Tarleton State’s D-I era to collect a bagel in doubles. Ishii and Minetti helped the Texans extend their home winning streak to 15 matches, dating back to the 2023-24 season.
