WAC WBB2526 Release Week 15
ONE MONTH UNTIL #WACVEGAS!
It is officially less than a month away from the 2026 WAC Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and only two games separate California Baptist (11-2), Abilene Christian (10-3) and Southern Utah (9-4) at the top of the WAC standings. The three squads have split the season series against each other after two matchups, leaving the final third of round robin WAC play to decide the tournament seeding tiebreakers and the eventual WAC regular season champion.
THUNDERBIRDS EVENS SEASON SERIES WITH CBU
Southern Utah got its revenge on the WAC standings leader, California Baptist, last Thursday with an 85-70 victory at Riverside, handing the Lancers their second conference loss of the season. The 85 points tied for the most in a WAC game this season. The Thunderbirds were led by the WAC Newcomer of the Week
Brooklyn Fely who dropped a career-high 31 points and notched a double-double with 13 rebounds. The T-Birds shot 53.3 percent from the field, their best field goal percentage against a D-I opponent this season, and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.
ABILENE CHRISTIAN’S MAGIC NUMBER 72
Abilene Christian took a Texas road trip and collected wins at UT Arlington and Tarleton State with a winning point total of 72 in each game: 72-63 versus the Lady Mavs and 72-67 against the Texans. The Wildcats have shown offensive consistency as of late with the team finishing with the total points range of 68 to 72 in each of the last six games.
Payton Hull has taken over the ACU offense as the WAC Player of the Week averaged 30.0 points per game last week, highlighted by a 36-point performance versus Tarleton State, the most points scored in a game by a WAC player this season and an ACU D-I program record.
EMMA JOHANSSON’S BLOCK PARTY
California Baptist’s
Emma Johansson currently leads the nation in blocks (76) and blocks per game (2.92). Johansson has tallied six games this season with at least five blocks and has a season-high of seven blocks in the season-opener versus UC Riverside. The senior forward has recorded a block in 22 of 26 games this season.
