ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s Ava Uhrich and Utah Tech’s Kaylee Borden have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Women’s Basketball Player and Newcomer of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Feb. 22.
 
Uhrich, a junior forward, was awarded her third WAC Player of the Week award of the season after recording a pair of 20-point double-doubles last week and leading Southern Utah to its third and fourth straight victory. Uhrich was four assists shy of a triple-double against Tarleton State where she notched 24 points, 10 boards and six assists. Uhrich then posted her second highest scoring performance of the season in a key matchup versus Abilene Christian as she recorded 26 points along with 13 rebounds against the Wildcats. Uhrich shot over 60 percent from the field on the week, making 20 buckets on 33 attempts.
 
Borden, a redshirt senior guard transfer from Nevada, scored a career-high 29 points, including a pair of game winning free throws with 1.5 seconds left, in Utah Tech’s victory over UT Arlington. Borden followed that up with 18 points against Tarleton State, 13 of which came in the second half. Borden totaled seven three-pointers last week, the second most in the league.
