ARLINGTON, Texas – Southern Utah’s McKenzy Becerra and Tarleton State’s Shelby Schultz have been named the Jersey Mike’s A Sub Above Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, for the game week ending on Sunday, Apr. 19.
 
Becerra, a freshman infielder, notched a .700 batting average in Southern Utah’s series sweep over Abilene Christian and posted multiple hits in all three games. In game one, Becerra went 2-for-2 with two home runs and six RBIs, including a grand slam in the second inning. Becerra then went 3-for-4 in game two with a walk-off RBI-single in the eighth inning. She capped off the series with two more hits and an RBI double in the first inning of game three. Becerra finished the series with a total of eight RBIs and four runs scored.
 
Schultz, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, picked up her fourth consecutive complete game, and sixth complete game in the last eight contests, after posting a 2-0 record last week, helping Tarleton State to a series sweep against Utah Valley. Schultz tossed a two-hit complete game shutout in game one versus the Wolverines and then allowed only two earned runs in the final two innings of game three, resulting in a 1.00 ERA on the week. Schultz totaled 12 strikeouts and held UVU to a .212 batting average.
