2026 WAC SB Release - Week 12

SATURDAYS ARE FOR THE BROOMS
Last Saturday marked the first time this season that all three WAC series ended in sweeps as Southern Utah, Tarleton State and UT Arlington took care of business and went 3-0 last weekend. The Texans and Mavericks closed the gap on first-place California Baptist while the Thunderbirds jump up three spots to fourth place in the WAC standings.

TEXANS HEATING UP FOR THE POSTSEASON
Tarleton State is making a strong run for the WAC regular season title as the Texans have taken nine of the last 10 conference games, including the last six straight after sweeping their last two series against Utah Valley and Southern Utah. The Texan pitching staff, led by Shelby Schultz and Jaelynn Duke, has not allowed more than three runs in each of the last six WAC games. Tarleton State can clinch a WAC tournament spot with one win against Utah Tech this weekend.

MAVERICKS RUN UP THE SCOREBOARD IN ST. GEORGE
UT Arlington is coming off a strong offensive weekend at St. George as the Mavericks swept Utah Tech while averaging 12.0 runs per game. Kaylee Schweitzer was a key contributor for UTA as she recorded a .700 batting average last weekend and tied an NCAA single-game record with three triples in game one against the Trailblazers, totaling five RBIs and two runs scored in the game. One win against Southern Utah this weekend will also lock UT Arlington into the WAC tournament.

BECERRA’S BREAKOUT WEEK EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION
A breakout weekend for Southern Utah freshman McKenzy Becerra, who batted .700 with eight RBIs and scored four runs, not only earned her the WAC Player of the Week award, but also the D1 Softball Mid-Major Freshman of the Week honors as well. Becerra posted multiple hits in all three games against ACU with two home runs and six RBIs in game one and a walk-off single in game two, helping the Thunderbirds to a crucial sweep over the Wildcats.

LANCERS SECURE FIRST WAC TOURNAMENT SPOT
California Baptist notched the first spot of the 2026 University Credit Union WAC Softball Tournament following last Saturday’s results. The Lancers currently hold a one-game lead over Tarleton State in the WAC standings and will look to build on that lead before taking on the Texans in the final week of regular season play next weekend.
